The theme for this subject is taken from the Caryatids in Greek architecture, that are carved into the columns of the temple and hold up the pediment. This seems like a metaphor for the ways that people, especially women, hold up society and carry great responsibility. This figure is compressed under the weight, but still very strong and bears the heavy burden. It is a metaphor for the strength needed at our present time. Despite fear and uncertainty, we must keep our resolve.
