Born in 1957 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, JuliAnne Jonker is a dedicated artist who studied Classical Realism at the Minnesota River School of Fine Art. Her work has gained recognition in prestigious venues and competitions, including:

In addition to these accolades, JuliAnne has received multiple honors from the FiKVA (Belgium), Ruth Borchard Art Prize (London), Salmagundi Club (New York), RJD Gallery (New York), Ille Arts (New York), The Chaffy Museum (Ontario), The Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art, and 33 Contemporary Gallery (Chicago). Her artwork is represented by Chelsie Nicole Contemporary Gallery in Ozark, Missouri, and DAnthony Gallery in Wausau, Wisconsin. One of her works is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Encaustic Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and she is honored to have 15 paintings included in the Lunar Codex.
Currently residing and working in Apple Valley, Minnesota, JuliAnne continues to develop her artistic practice and contribute to the art community.
Artist Statement
From a young age, I have been immersed in a world brimming with creativity, nurtured by a family of professional musicians and artists. This encouraging environment laid the groundwork for my lifelong passion for art.
As an artist, I am deeply moved and fascinated by the spiritual connection between beings and our presence within creation. My intent is for my art to serve as a conduit—a visual language for our inherent ability to see and be seen. Each piece I create reflects the beauty I perceive in all creation, and it is my hope that this beauty resonates with each collector.
Currently, I am engaged in creating with encaustic wax, cold wax, and oils. The use of wax introduces a sculptural quality to the pigments, allowing me to build depth and texture while achieving a soft matte patina. My creative process is rhythmic and layered; I build up the wax and oil, excavating, creating, and sometimes destroying, employing a variety of tools to establish the history and depth characteristic of wax paintings. With multiple layers, I aim to build depth and resonance, fostering a haunting quality that carries a spiritual nuance. Throughout this journey, I remain mindful of the intricacies in each subject's likeness, resulting in a realism that evokes obscured memories while blending classical and contemporary styles.
