Boriana Pertchinska

For years, Boriana Pertchinska has explored the theme of transformation on various levels: identity, the transition from analog to digital reality, and emotional transformation. Her research lies at the intersection of past and present, in the depth and symbolic patina of time. In her works, Pertchinska inserts symbols from different eras and civilizations, often with ambivalent meanings in a contemporary context, giving them new meanings and thus encouraging the viewer to connect with the world's cultural heritage, seeking answers for the future. On the one hand, Boriana Pertchinska uses classical painting techniques for her artistic experiments; on the other, she abstracts concrete form in various ways, seeking the interface between classical and contemporary forms that can express the contradictory context of modern man and his dualistic nature in the face of an obsessive, hypertechnological, and hyper-computerized world. In the TRANSFORM - Diptychs series, which Pertchinska has been developing for several years, the physically visible and the material are opposed, but also mutually conditioned by the psychic, psychological, and spiritual dimensions. The rational-emotional antinomies meet in their complex interrelation and internal dependence. The plastic transformations in the study of the visible-invisible, boundary-infinity connections are the compositional resource of the sought-after suggestions. The concrete image is literally burned in some places, only to be completely abstracted in the rest of the diptych, which is a sort of visual palindrome, accessible from left to right and right to left, from the concrete image to its abstraction and vice versa. These peculiar "palendromes" suggest the eternal movement and transformation of energy from the material to the spiritual, from one level to another.
